Finding shaded stadium seats
Published by Michael Carrano on July 23, 2024
I enjoy going to sporting events in person but I do not like sitting out in the sun the entire time.
I attended the Orioles vs Yankees game with family and I was tasked with finding the seats for everyone. This was a responsibility I took seriously.
I want to share how I went about finding seats that were in the shade the entire time the game was played. This also serves as documentation for myself when I will have to do this research again in the future.
I knew the game was being played at Oriole Park at Camden Yards at 11:35 am, the location and time are critical information to know.
-
I first Googled “Shaded seats at Camden Yards” which gave me plenty of results to shift through. However, looking into the details they did not match up with the specific game I will be attending. The majority of the information I found referenced a late afternoon game which 11:35 am is not that. I knew further research was necessary.
-
The next step was using Google Earth Pro and using the sun feature to get an idea of the location of the sun at different times of the day. Surprisingly, this also showed me where shade/shadows were! This was the beginning of narrowing down my seat choices.
-
I narrowed the seats down to Section 312, Row 20 based on the available ticket prices on SeatGeek.
-
I then wanted to double confirm the seat shade so I looked for a live webcam around Camden Yards and I was able to find one to watch. I would check in regularly at different game times to make sure my section was in the shade. I checked before the game started, an hour into the game, and every hour after that until the time I thought we would be leaving. Every time I looked, the seats remained in the shade.
-
I then gave the stadium a call but the person I spoke to couldn’t say with confidence I would be in the shade. This wasn’t encouraging. I might make this my first step in the future to try and narrow down sections quicker.
Next time my research will be much faster than the hours I spent this time around and I hope this helps you find the shaded seat you are looking for to enjoy your stadium event.
